Jeff Newman’s ‘Psalms for the Day’

newman_leadFULLERTON, Neb.—Delight, refuge, and dependence were the themes of the Nebraska Association of Regular Baptist Churches Fall Bible Conference, “Psalms for the Day.” These are topics that speaker Jeff Newman knows well as author of Dependence in the Wilderness.

In his book, Newman draws from Psalm 63 to guide readers toward dependence on God while facing the journey of suffering. “On the path of our wilderness journey,” he writes, “we must seek God earnestly, meditate on God continually, and praise God submissively.” Speaking at the NARBC conference, he again used Psalm 63, as well as Psalms 19 and 46, to encourage and challenge the pastors, church members, and missionaries in attendance.

Victory Baptist Church hosted the conference Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, and did so “with excellence,” says Shawn Rittmiller, pastor of Park Lane Baptist Church in Omaha. The NARBC aimed for the conference to “bring great refreshment and renewal in the Lord,” leaving attendees “with great peace and joy that only the Lord can give.”

Newman, professor of Bible and Biblical counseling at Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary, is also author of Conflict under Control and Facing Life’s Challenges, and wrote a chapter on Biblical counseling for The Pastor: A Guide for God’s Faithful Servant.

On April 7 and 8, the NARBC will hold its spring conference at Gretna (Neb.) Baptist Church with John Greening, GARBC national representative and Regular Baptist Press author.
