Vogels Share Marriage ‘Top 10’ at Florida Retreat

LEESBURG, Fla.—Authors Jim and Jeannie Vogel spoke at the Sunshine Baptist Fellowship Couples’ Retreat March 24 and 25 at the Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center.

In the first session, Jim presented the Biblical basis for commitment to marriage. Then he and Jeannie shared their top-10 list for strengthening marriages. Jeannie named five things for wives to work on, while Jim shared five for husbands to consider. The Vogels enjoy teaching together and say that reviewing marriage principles is good for them, even after 39 years of marriage.

Pastor Terry Weaver of Berean Baptist Church in Okahumpka, Florida, coordinated the retreat. Assisting him were Paul Youmans, pastor of Open Bible Baptist Church in Orange City, who led the 16 couples in ice-breaking games, and Bryan Goebert, pastor of Suncoast Baptist Church in New Port Richey, who served as the retreat song leader. The couples enjoyed a beautiful conference center setting, perfect weather, and a relaxed atmosphere combined with fresh and delicious all-you-can-eat meals. Around a bonfire Friday night, they had “a wonderful time of sharing, with fireflies and a starlit sky,” says Weaver.

Jim Vogel, who holds a DMin from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, is executive director of the Northeast Fellowship of Independent Baptist Churches in New York State. He spent several years as the GARBC associate national representative after pastoring for 30 years. Jim has a heart for pastors, editing the Regular Baptist Press book The Pastor: A Guide for God’s Faithful Servant (he also wrote chapter 18, “Guiding the Local Outreach Program”) and, for several years, writing the “Leader’s Digest” column in the Baptist Bulletin. He continues to contribute articles for the magazine.

Jeannie is the women’s and senior adult ministries coordinator for the Northeast Fellowship. She has an MA from Clarks Summit University and has taught communications and women’s ministry on the college level. Like her husband, Jeannie has written for the Baptist Bulletin magazine. She has also written three RBP studies for women: Her first book is an evangelistic Bible study, Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John. In 2011 she won the Writer of the Year Award from Write-to-Publish for her leaders’ Bible study, Accepting the Challenge: Leadership Lessons from the Life of Moses. And in 2016, she was a finalist in the Bible Study category of the Selah Awards for her newest study, Our Sovereign God: The Book of Ezra.
