HASTINGS, Mich.—June 26–27, Hastings Baptist Church hosted a Children’s Ministry Training Weekend and invited Kids4Truth Clubs Program Specialist Marrena Ralph to speak. Working with Matt Moser, the church’s pastor, and Pam, the church’s Kids4Truth Clubs director, Marrena customized the sessions for the church’s unique needs.

Marrena taught “Engaging Children to Learn Using the Teacher’s Guide,” “Effective Memory Techniques,” “Engaging and Motivating Children to Learn,” “Effective Small Groups,” and “Adding Fun Events and Activities for Your Program”—all of which can be customized to any children’s ministry program or curriculum. She also created event-specific notes and included hands-on exercises so attendees could immediately practice what they were learning.

Further, Marrena was available before and after all sessions, after the Sunday morning worship service, and during a church potluck to answer workers’ specific questions. Marrena’s husband, Rusty, attended and fielded questions. Marrena says Rusty’s experience working and teaching in clubs since 1998 made him a valuable asset to the training event.

Pastor Moser reports that “the Kids4Truth training was phenomenal! It was super beneficial in energizing our leaders, getting them back on track, and giving them an abundance of information they did not have and did not even know was available.” He goes on to recommend in-person training: “While it would be impossible for Marrena to personally be in every church using the K4T program, her enthusiasm and knowledge of the program inspires and equips leaders to lead well. The training was extremely flexible and accommodated the needs of our church. I would highly recommend the Kids4Truth training to anyone who is currently using or considering using Kids4Truth.”

While church leaders recommended that workers attend the event in person, the church recorded the training sessions and is encouraging those who could not attend to watch the video. Similarly, Kids4Truth Clubs itself offers digital training and provides EquipU, an online library of free children’s ministry resources available for download (users must register for access). Pastor Moser describes EquipU as “a beautiful resource for churches using the K4T program. Continuing to add more instructional videos and resources to the EquipU site is only going to strengthen the program.”
