VBS Offering Provides Oasis during Crisis

Operation Oasis at Kookaburra Coast RBP's 2022 VBS -- tree with koala and signpost to places in AustraliaAt Kookaburra Coast VBS, kids ventured throughout Australia, making great memories with eternal impact. A special memory for many of them was the missions project. By participating in Operation Oasis, they assisted people who badly needed help—when they needed it most.

Like an oasis, this missions project provided a place of relief for hurting people who had gone through crises. This project shined God’s goodness to individuals who had suffered great loss.

Recently, crises hit hard for orphans and widows in Kenya and Uganda. They had already been through so much, but the pandemic made things worse. Orphans in both countries were malnourished and close to starvation. And Kenyan widows were struggling to find housing or safe places to sleep. These were terrible crises.

But VBS children gave sacrificially, and now many precious children and widows will have an oasis! Dozens of orphans will have food to help them grow up strong and supplies for doing well in school. And safe, comfortable housing is already being built for several widows, thanks in large part to the generosity of VBS kids. These widows will also have mattresses to sleep on. The VBS kids’ gifts to Operation Oasis are providing an open door for believers in Kenya and Uganda to share the good news of eternal life to people who may be receptive to it!

Not only did VBS children give, but they also prayed. They asked God to provide for those who are going through crises so they have what they need to survive and learn about the true Oasis, Jesus.

Giving to missions projects has a wonderful side benefit for VBS students. It encourages them to look beyond themselves while helping other kids and families around the world. That others-first perspective can be the start of something special in their hearts. They can make a difference in someone else’s life—a difference that counts for eternity!

VBS 2023 offers another opportunity for this life-changing effect to take place. VBS students will “travel” to Malawi through the missions project, Operation Hope. There they’ll help kids who have a hopeless future. And they’ll help supply these kids with what they need to survive, do well in school, and learn life skills, all while they learn about Jesus. What an impact—VBS children can give Malawian children a reason for hope, perhaps for the first time in their lives!
