CHARLESTON, W.Va.—Dr. Daniel Anderson, president of Appalachian Bible College and a Regular Baptist Books author, took part in this year’s National Day of Prayer in the college’s home state. Hundreds gathered on the steps of the West Virginia Capitol in Charleston to observe the day.
The state’s governor, Jim Justice, signed a proclamation naming May 4, 2023, National Day of Prayer in West Virginia. His proclamation encouraged all citizens to join him in observing the day. The proclamation also states,
We not only express our faith and exercise our freedom in prayer but unite our hearts and voices in personal prayer and public gatherings throughout our state and across America with fervent praise, repentance, love and humble intercession for our neighbor and nation, holding fast to the promises throughout our Holy Scriptures that the lord hears and avails much as He answers the faith-filled prayers of His people.
Leaders, pastors, and students led in praying about the arts, businesses and workplaces, churches, entertainment, family, government, media, and the military. Others offered prayers of thanksgiving, and some asked God to send revival.
Dr. Anderson led the prayer specifically about education, thus modeling the kind of leadership he wrote about in his book Biblical Slave Leadership: A Stewardship from Above to Lead from Below: “At a time when our world seems desperate for effective leaders, the church has the opportunity to display Biblical leadership. From the individual leadership of one’s personal life, to the domestic leadership of family life, to the public leadership of ministry settings—at all levels and in all arenas—we must be Biblical leaders” (quotation taken from the book’s back cover).
